First Chester County Corporation announced its financial results for the second quarter ended June 30, 2009. Net income totaled $2.2 million, a respectable increase of 22% compared to $1.8 million in the second quarter of 2008. Diluted earnings per share for the quarter were $0.36, a slight rise from the $0.35 per diluted share reported for the second quarter of 2008.

Leading provider of DNA-based security solutions, Applied DNA Sciences, Inc., announced today that it has joined forces with Banknote Watch, government and police companies devoted to fighting the ongoing battle against cash-in-transit (CIT) crimes. The company’s SigNature® DNA marks, which work to dissuade criminals, helps the CIT companies lower costs and minimize risk to their personnel.

Though it’s not getting the frenzy of media attention it received in the past several months, the World Health Organization and Center for Disease Control say the H1N1 (swine flu) is still spreading worldwide and remains a constant threat.

Premier Commercial Bancorp, parent company of Premier Commercial Bank, N.A., reported a sizable increase in consolidated earnings for the second quarter of this year. Earnings totaled $206,000, compared to $113,000 for the same period last year. For the six months ended June 30, 2009 earnings totaled $411,000 compared to $485,000 for the same period last year and $352,000 for 2007.

In the most recent unemployment numbers, it was reported that approximately 467,000 jobs were lost in June, totaling to 7.2 million people since the start of the recession. The job losses now equal the net job gains over the previous nine years, making this the only recession since the Great Depression to wipe out all job growth from the previous upward cycle.
