First Solar Earnings Options Play

In the past 12 months the stock has underperformed the overall stock market.The S&P is up 9.94% and FSLR is down 6.75%.

The bull case for First Solar came out in an Oct 6th press release.

The company announced an increase of 380 MW of orders for 2011 over previously announced orders.

So tell me, what does a day trader do? How do you decide what stock to buy? These are the questions people ask after I tell them I am a day trader. I will attempt to shed some light on the subject, although, it is similar to asking a heart surgeon, how he performs open heart surgery. (Yes, us day traders think highly of our profession).

Stocks can be grouped into three categories....

A covered call is also referred to as a “buy write”. A covered call involves buying the stock and selling one call option, against every one hundred shares that is owned.

Let us use Microsoft stock just as an example.

If we were to buy 100 shares of stock in Microsoft, Ticker MSFT for $25.80 a share and then sell the $26 call. This would be a covered call.

This morning I went scanning for 52 week low stocks and all the higher education companies popped up on the list. Devry announced earnings on Thursday night that beat expectations but that didn’t help matter.

The market is responding to the ongoing investigation in the senate regarding deceptive practices conducted by various for profit colleges

Power One has got the Power!

A few years ago I read a great book: How I made $2,000,000 in the stock market. The book was originally published in 1960 and it still holds true today. Here is the link to the book on Amazon: http://amzn.to/cU7H1i . One of the concepts he speaks about in the book is looking for stocks that “step up” on high volume. This chart would be a perfect example.
