ArvinMeritor Narrows Loss

ArvinMeritor, which makes axles, brakes, emissions systems, and door and roof systems for cars and heavy trucks, managed to narrow its quarterly loss to $62 million, or 86 cents a share, compared with a net loss of $274 million, or $3.89 a share, in the year-earlier period.

Nortel Networks Swings to 3Q Profit

Nortel Networks had its best quarter in over 3 years, sending shares up 12% Tuesday.

Net income totaled $27 million, or 5 cents per share, versus a prior-year loss of $63 million, or 14 cents per share.

American Financial Jumps on Buyout News

American Financial Realty Trust jumped Monday, after Gramercy Capital Corp. said it will buy the company for $3.4 billion in cash and stock.

Gramercy, a commercial real estate specialty finance company, will acquire American Financial for $5.50 per share in cash and 0.12096 shares of its stock.
