Over the weekend I had an interesting conversation with a local trader. We typically meet a few times a year to share our market outlooks, new trading tools and techniques, and usually finish our session off in a debate about the US market manipulation and how to trade around it.

Since reaching a high of just over $110 a barrel, this market has fallen back and moved sideways. We view the current action as positive longer term to drive crude oil prices up to the $120-$125 levels. A close this week over the $108.20 level should be viewed as extremely positive for this commodity.

Crude oil [April contract] posted an inside day with a higher close on Tuesday as it extends the trading range of the past two weeks. Is The Double Top in For Crude Oil?

Only our longer term monthly Trade Triangle for crude oil remains positive on this market. The move today below the $98 support level puts this market in jeopardy of further weakness. A close below the $93.50 level seen on December 18th would confirm a double top pivot point formation, which would measure down to the $84 a barrel level.

Crude oil rose further to as high as 103.74 last week but failed to sustain above 103.37 resistance and retreated. Initial bias remains neutral this week for some consolidations first. Nonetheless, near term outlook will remain bullish as long as 98.30 minor support holds. We'd expect rise form 74.95 to resume sooner or later. Above 103.74 will target 114.83 key resistance next.

Back in August with Gold running to parabolic wave 3 sentiment induced highs, I warned of a major top and multi month correction. We all know that the fundamentals for the shiny metal are stronger than ever, but you must keep in mind that the market prices all that in well l in advance.

Writing about financial markets is probably the most challenging endeavor I have ever immersed myself into. I am a trader first and a writer second, but I have really come to enjoy scribing missives about financial markets because it really forces me to concentrate on my analysis.
