Netflix shares have been taking a beating this morning after returning some pretty positive earnings news. On Monday, Netflix reported a first-quarter profit that rose 35% as subscribers increased by 21%. Revenue rose to $326.2 million from $305.3 million, an increase of 7%.

FairPoint Communications Inc. acquired Verizon's wired telephone lines and high-speed Internet service in northern New England on Monday, and its stock plunged on the news.

The U.S. Justice Department on Monday approved the proposed $4.22 billion purchase of XM Satellite Radio (XMSR) by Sirius Satellite Radio (SIRI) after concluding a combined XM-Sirius would not harm consumers.

The deal still needs approval from the Federal Communications Commission, which is expected to follow the Justice Department's lead.

I hope the articles are correct. This is one of the longest merger decisions in HISTORY. Come on Martin, make a damn decision.

Monday, March 10, 2008 was launch day. It is difficult to imagine a more successful effort. A fifty-pip bounce was followed closely by another 50-pip bounce. The Dream Team was in the zone and excitement filled the air.

With the addition of Fisher-Klosterman, Inc. I think CECO Environmental Corp. (CECE) is still a great buy at these levels and will have a very successful 2008 even with a slowdown in the US economy. This site is all about long term investment after all and with a air-pollution controls market that is growing this fast CECO is certainly in the right spot.

Disney is up strong after reporting a better than expected revenue number. Revenues for the theme parks, TV and product division were up 9 percent for the quarter, sending the stock up over 5% in premarket activity.

For the second time in as many days, a major global media company released results which suggested little adverse, or material, impact from either the writers’ strike or a feared slow down in advertising spending related to the economy.

With the amazing price action in the markets today you might just be suffering from motion sickness. The Dow traded today in a 600 point range... that's right it was down over 300 points at one time during the day, but came back and closed up 298 points in a flurry of short covering and long term bulls.

Man, It has been awhile since I kept the discussion alive on the Sirius/XM merger. Recently the approval talks have been getting closer to finalization. And the fact that the FCC says they will reach a decision by the first quarter of 2008 makes me even more confident that this merger is going to go through.

Cogeco Cable has signed a video-on-demand pact with the international television distribution arm of The Walt Disney Co. that will add a slate of classic movies and new releases to the cable operator's offering.
