Regulate The Regulators: Every scandal produces new levels of regulations and additional cadres of secret police who raise business costs in the name of compliance with "da law". Countless hours of non-productive time are mandated by broad-brush policies and procedural requirements that do little to protect the consumer --- in many cases they simply annoy the people they are supposed to assist.

Are you ready for the sequel to the blockbuster movie "Wall Street"? Shooting is scheduled to begin this week in Manhattan. The original film was shot in 1987 and co-starred Michael Douglas as the now infamous Gordon Gekko. The original movie was directed and co-written by Oliver Stone, who is also the director to the sequel.

So far, 43 companies in the S&P 500 have reported, and a full two-thirds have beaten estimates. More surprising is how lean and profitable some companies have become in industries known for their cyclicality. Intel posted fantastic results, as did Goldman and JPMorgan.

At the annual Berkshire Hathaway meeting, Warren Buffett and Charlie Munger provide more nuggets about the efficacy of active management, the long-term outlook for capitalism, and the road to prosperity ahead.
