Expert Claims: Silver to Outperform Gold

In the article “Didn’t Get into Gold Early Enough? This Other Metal’s Your Second Chance,” Lombardi states that, in the past few weeks, silver prices have increased significantly. While he concedes that gold bullion prices have done the same, he notes that by looking at the percentages of these increases, you can see that silver prices have outperformed gold bullion.

In a recent editorial, I talked about QE3 (a third round of quantitative easing implemented by the Federal Reserve) and how it was a reward largely for the upper echelons of income-earners. The middle class will benefit due to the lower carrying costs, but the rich will really be the net benefactors of this monetary policy.

Quantitative easing (“QE”) has been a term used in investor’s vocabulary since January ’09, when the first round of QE (“QE 1.0”) was introduced.

While the market initially sold off as no QE3 liquidity was announced, the market tone turned bullish on hopes of future stimulus. Fed promises rates at zero for years.

Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke is speaking in front of Congress, and the prepared remarks basically said that QE3 is going to happen if the economy continues to worsen.

On Friday, The University of Michigan's report on consumer confidence was released.

According to the report, inflation expectations rose to 3.0% from 2.9%, the second highest figure in 2011.
