Citigroup, Inc. (NYSE:C) which is still 12 percent owned by the government, reported its third straight quarter of profit Monday as losses from failed loans narrowed.

The New York-based bank earned $2.15 billion, or 7 cents per share, in net income available to common shareholders. That compares to a loss of $3.24 billion, or 27 cents per share, during the same quarter last year.
