One of the ways companies experience revenue growth is by buying other companies. For the 3rd Quarter 2008, Deep Down, Inc. reaped the fruit of this strategy as its revenues shot up from its acquisitions of Mako Technologies, LLC and Flotation Technologies, Inc.

Once was the time when companies were molded to do one thing and do it good. Distractions were to be avoided for fear of losing focus and a steady revenue stream. In today’s marketplace the same is true in a general sense, but the idea is quietly losing some of its imperativeness as allied markets show opportunity and the possibility for diversification.

TGC Industries, Inc. (NASD: TGE), a leading provider of seismic data acquisition services throughout the continental United States, recently announced its financial results from the third quarter of 2008. Net income for the quarter totaled $0.11 per share compared with net income of $0.10 per share recording during the third quarter of 2007, beating analysts’ estimates of $0.09 per share.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed below 10,000 today for the first time in four years. The sell-off has been particularly brutal among stocks leveraged to commodities and the global growth story, with most names down over 60% since oil peaked in July, and many hitting multi-year lows.

Ecosphere Technologies Inc. (ESPH.OB) is a diversified water engineering and services company primarily focused on the natural gas industry. The company provides water recycling services at the well site to provide clean water for energy companies to extract natural gas from unconventional shale plays.

As the big dominos of $125 oil, $4 copper, $6 corn, and $1,000 gold fall onto the market, raw-material producers enjoy record cash flows. The next domino is all the cash finding its way to companies that supply equipment, services, and infrastructure to those producers.
