Diamond prices soar on Asian demand

Diamonds have emerged as a haven investment alongside favourites gold and the Swiss franc, with surging demand from Asian buyers driving prices of the precious stones.

Almost every commodity related stock has been under pressure today. The declines in many of the leading commodity stocks come as the Asian countries continue to fight high inflation with rate increases. Alpha Natural Resources Inc.(NYSE:ANR) is one particular stock that is declining today by $3.88 to $60.25 a share.

The Euro rebounded against the Dollar after early session weakness as Asian traders saw value and bought on the dips. The rally may be short-lived however as selling pressure may return amid concerns about peripheral Euro Zone debt.

U.S. equity markets are trading lower this morning ahead of the opening in New York. Although the markets closed higher on Tuesday, they started to peel back gains about mid-session on concerns about consumer discretionary stock losses and a slow down in global growth.

U.S. stock markets are trading higher ahead of the opening after hitting oversold levels and bottoming in Asia. Traders took the markets lower overnight in a follow-through break following Tuesday’s sell-off, but after reassessing the financial situation in Greece and the general lack of fresh sellers, turned the markets around on bottom-picking and short-covering.

U.S. equity markets are called to open lower after a volatile Asian trade triggered by a possible debt rating cut in Japan and another sign that China is serious about tightening its monetary policy.
