Answers
You can find most information about the daily moves of the US stock market for free at http://www.google.com/finance or http://finance.yahoo.com . The main page of either site will show you the daily changes of the major US stock market indexes. Since there are several major stock exchanges and many thousands of companies traded, there is no comprehensive index or average that includes every single stock traded in the US. Most investors follow the major indexes such as the Dow Jones Industrial Average (30 of the biggest US companies), and the S&P 500 (500 biggest US companies). If you are looking for a broader index, the NASDAQ Composite includes all companies traded on the NASDAQ exchange (over 3000 stocks) and the NYSE Composite includes about 2000 companies, traded on the New York Stock Exchange. To look at the current price of any individual stock, all you need to do is enter the stock symbol in the Quote search box of either website (for example: MSFT ) or if you don't know the symbol you can enter the company name, such as : Microsoft.
