Fate of Foreign Oil Investors In Limbo Amid Ghana-Côte d’Ivoire Border Dispute

A maritime boundary dispute between Ghana and Côte d’Ivoire that erupted this month casts doubt on future international oil claims near the contested area and raises questions about the reaction of foreign investors to the uncertainty.

Earlier this month, Côte d’Ivoire appealed to the United Nations to delineate its offshore border with Ghana, a bid seen as controversial since Russia’s Lukoil discovered oil reserves only days before off Ghana’s coast. Ghana’s Jubilee field will also begin operations later this year and give the country commercial oil-producer status.
Where will Natural Gas Prices Go Now That Inventories Have Been Drawn Down

Mother Nature's been good to the North American natural gas sector.

Not only did she gift several massive shale gas plays over the last few years. She also delivered a frigid winter this year, helping draw down a mountain of gas inventory.
Last fall, it looked like U.S. inventories were going to be a stiff headwind for prices.

With shale gas boosting American production for the first time in a decade, record amounts of gas were going into storage.
Happy 50th Anniversary Year OPEC

On September 14, 1960 OPEC began operations as an ad-hoc talk-shop of sorts, and five years later became a permanent part of Vienna’s international bureaucracy. I have decided to send my birthday greeting to them early however, because today (March, 17) is the day (in 2007) that I began my course on oil and gas economics at the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) in Bangkok, during which I explained to various students that no matter what they had been led to believe by other researchers and lecturers, a new oil day had arrived due to the sophistication of OPEC, and only those present who worked for oil firms would find it invigorating.
Stocks Likely to React to Slew of Economic Reports

U.S. stock indices are trading flat overnight. Traders have largely ignored the weakness in the Euro over Greece concerns. This may mean that today’s menu of U.S. economic reports will have a bigger influence on stock prices.

The first report is Weekly Initial Claims. Traders will want to see improvements in the U.S. job situation in order to get a gauge of the developing U.S. recovery. The Consumer Price Index, due out at 7:30am CT, will give traders a clue about U.S. inflation. Leading Indicators and Philadelphia Fed will give traders information about the robustness of the recovery.

With cheap money expected to be around for an extended period of time, continue to look for the stock market to rise. A strong rally in the Dollar however, is likely to put pressure on equity prices due to profit-taking.

Dollar Up as Greek Finance Woes Continue

The U.S. Dollar is trading better against most major currencies with the exception of the Japanese Yen as investors removed risk from the equation overnight. The Dollar was under pressure on Wednesday as traders reacted to the previous day’s FOMC statement. In its statement the Fed said that interest rates would remain low for a prolonged period. This gave traders the green light to buy higher risk assets while selling the Dollar.

Late Wednesday news came out that the political party representing German Chancellor Merkel said that a bailout was unlikely and that Greece may have to seek aid from the International Monetary Fund. This weakened the Euro, forcing a lower close. This news has spilled over into the markets overnight and is putting pressure on higher yielding assets while helping to drive traders into the Dollar for safety.

The EUR USD is trading lower, but remains in an uptrend. The key to sustaining the developing rally will be this market’s ability to attract buyers in the retracement zone at 1.3628 to 1.3584.

FreshWater Technologies
is an international marketer and distributor of chemical free drinking water purification systems, water softeners & commercial water activation systems. Water industry research has indicated that even proven water treatment technologies lacked support from local partners. FreshWater's agents in Central and South America do have a loyal customer base to provide FreshWater drinking water and water activation products.

Drinking Water Systems: VIQUA (Formerly R-Can Environmental Inc). features the industry-leading, Sterilight ultraviolet systems plus reverse osmosis, ozone systems and the Impression water Softener Series.

Ultraviolet Disinfection is an established, economical, powerful and chemical free process that provides a 99.99% reduction in bacteria, virus and cyst contaminants such as E. coli, Cryptosporidium and Giardia, using natural ultraviolet light energy to eradicate health threatening contaminants. Traditional methods such as chlorination can react with organic matter to produce objectionable taste and odour as well as form carcinogen substances such as trihalomethane. VIQUA's ultraviolet technology introduces no chemicals into the water.

Water Activation Technology. FW water activation technology, from Japan, is an innovative, chemical free method that has proven its effectiveness in removing rust, scale and corrosion deposits in commercial and industrial boiler and refrigeration systems. FW water activation technology is based on principles of electrical fluidization where extremely hard ceramic balls are placed inside a stainless steel container. As water passes through the container, the ceramic balls rotate and rub against each other producing several forms of electrical energy. The result: Accumulated deposits are removed by the water activation process and no new deposits are able to be formed.

KEY CORPORATE STRATEGIES

      1. Acquisition of leading edge, chemical free technology: Having a technological advantage is a key to market differentiation. Regulatory authorities are increasingly concerned about chemical substances discharging to a watercourse.

      2. Strong local partnerships: Without well established and committed local partners, it is difficult to manage the language, culture and business practices of foreign countries. FreshWater is very selective in choosing the right kind of local partners who can effectively represent our innovative technologies and applications.

      3. Focus on successful niche applications: No company can be all things to all people. We have been able to identify those VIQUA and FW technologies that have achieved customer acceptance creating a competitive advantage for these products and solutions.

FreshWater began operating in international areas where our small size and limited resources were not a disadvantage. As we grow, we will be looking to enter those immense North American and European markets and select niche opportunities for these proven technologies.

                    Press Release from 3/17/10

Freshwater Offers Ozone Drinking Water and Food Safety Solutions

CHICAGO, Mar 17, 2010 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Freshwater Technologies Inc. (OTCBB: FWTC) is pleased to announce that the Company is expanding its Latin American distribution with the unique benefits of Ozocan Corporation's major ozone technology solutions. Ozocan has installations across the globe with custom designed solutions for very large installations as well as standard sized ozone product categories. Ozone's unique disinfectant capabilities, 50 percent more powerful than chlorine, has proven its ability to provide safe drinking water for years. More and more, large North American cities are replacing conventional chlorine based treatment systems with ozone which does not introduce harmful by products into the environment. Ozocan's drinking water facilities effectively disinfect bacteria, viruses and protozoa as well as oxidizing heavy metals like iron and manganese. Ozone also eliminates taste and odor in drinking water supplies.

Export of produce from Latin American countries create another opportunity for Ozone which has replaced chlorine as the most effective treatment to promote food safety in produce which will often carry bacterial microorganisms which can cause health problems for consumers. In addition, washing produce with ozone is helpful in extending shelf life of produce, an economic benefit for supermarkets offering fresh produce. Ozone applications now eliminate more than 90 percent of bacterial counts on produce which helps ensure consumer confidence in the produce that they consume.

Freshwater believes that its ready access to specific Latin American countries well suited to Ozocan's drinking water and food safety solutions will create new opportunities for broadening its product offerings on a selective , locally supported distribution and sales network.

Freshwater Expands Ultra Violet Drinking Water Distribution

CHICAGO, Mar 17, 2010 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Freshwater Technologies Inc (OTCBB:FWTC) is pleased to announce that it is expanding its ultra violet drinking water applications to 6 Latin American countries where it has already established local partnerships for its FW water activation products. Viqua, which produces the "Sterilight" brand of Ultra Violet drinking water disinfection systems, has become a world leader in the design and manufacture of innovative disinfection systems for use in residential and small commercial applications. With several thousand installations worldwide, Viqua's Sterilight brand offers simple, safe and effective disinfection of water-borne bacteria, viruses and protozoa pathogens often found in many Latin American water supplies. The World Water Council reports that in Latin America, 77 million people lack access to safe water and Freshwater will concentrate on urban centres where we currently have local partners.

Unlike chlorine which often creates harmful by-products, Sterilight creates no residual by-products as no hazardous chemicals are used. Freshwater, through its distributors, has been able to identify certain areas, both residential and commercial, that are ideally suited to the affordability of the Viqua UV product line. These products allow individual homeowners and small commercial installations to take direct control of their own drinking water safety needs. Viqua also offers a broad range of advanced water products such as water softeners, media filters and filter housings and a broad range of filter cartridges, parts and accessories.

Freshwater will also be investigating locally based distributors and agents who will focus specifically on the untapped drinking market opportunities in countries where it currently is conducting business.

Freshwater Technologies is a Company dedicated to supplying proven chemical free, environmentally friendly water treatment systems for drinking and non-drinking water applications.

No Sign of Weakness as Stock Indices Soar

U.S. stock indices soared to the upside and finished sharply higher driven by greater demand for higher yielding assets. Tuesday’s decision by the FOMC to keep interest rates low for an extended period was the catalyst behind Wednesday’s rally. Because of the low interest rates the world is using the Dollar and the Yen as funding currencies. Without competition from other investments, look for the trend to continue. Overbought conditions may be the only reason this market breaks over the near-term, but traders should pay attention to the Euro. Fear that the fiscal problems in Greece may flare up could encourage traders to take a little risk off the table.

News that interest rates are going to remain low for quite some time helped to boost June Treasury Bonds. This market continues to remain strong despite the abundance of new supply hitting the market each month. The only negative factor that I foresee is the possibility China may cut back on its purchases of our debt due to conflicts over the value of the Yuan. The charts indicate more upside if this market can break through the pair of tops at 118’02 with conviction. The ensuing acceleration to the upside could trigger a further rally to 118’17.

The weaker Dollar helped to push April Gold prices higher early in the session. Profit-taking weakened gold near the mid-session however, but it still managed to close slightly better. Gold was up on increased demand for higher risk assets, but fell once the Euro began to weaken. . This market may encounter resistance at a 50% price at $1138.00, but upside momentum could trigger an acceleration to the upside once the main top is crossed at $1145.80.
