Time to Short Solar Stocks

Stocks related to solar power made a tremendous run in 2007 but they are currently grossly overpriced and overdue for a pullback. The insiders of most of these companies have been dumping shares like crazy which is never a good sign. Also, the market is expected to have a turbulent year so I think now is a good time to short some of these companies.

Yahoo Can Grow Faster Than Google

Just came across this article on Nabloid.com. They believe that Yahoo can surpass Google in growth because of their size. They liken Google to a fat kid who will have a lot harder time doubling in size than a ?small? kid. I would have used the analogy, "it is easier to doubly a penny than a dollar," but that is just me.

Solar Stocks - Good, Bad and Ugly

When a sector is so white hot, growing up pangs are bound to create speed bumps, and in the case of solar stocks, the bumps are named government funding, China startups and a polysilicon shortage..

Analysts at JP Morgan have released their 2008 investment guide for Internet stocks and say following outperformance in 2007 (Internet HOLDRs (HHH) +14% vs. S&P 500 +5%), they expect more of the same this year. Although revenue growth is seen decelerating to 21.2% from 25.6% last year, the analysts expect EPS growth of 34%, compared to only 8% for the S&P 500.

IBM has confirmed the acquisition of Israeli grid storage start-up XIV Information Systems for an undisclosed sum, but estimates are in the range of $300 to $350 million.

Hoku Amends 2 Polysilicon Contracts

Hoku Scientific is up 10% on the news that they were able to amend 2 Polysilicon Contracts in an effort to keep customers while securing financing for a planned polysilicon plant.

Sanyo Electric Co. amended their polysilicon supply agreement to provide Hoku with six additional weeks to secure financing for its plant. The initial deadline was Dec. 31, but is now Feb. 15.

Investors that want to seek shelter in a foreign stock should look at Mercadolibre (MELI).This company, Cramer said, processes ecommerce transactions, which have been a good business domestically and is an even better business in Latin America, where it’s based.
