Countrywide's credit default swaps tighten 65 bps
Countrywide shot up over 10% in early morning trading as the cost of protecting their debt against default fell for a second day in a row on growing confidence that Bank of America will proceed with its acquisition. The market was also glad to hear that David Sambol will retire as president of Countrywide after its acquisition by Bank of America.

Countrywide Financial to Bank of America - How do you like me now
Bank of America thought they were getting a bargain back in August. Low and behold, it was horribly misjudged by BAC.
As CFC neared risk of defaulting again in January 2008, BAC had to come up with a rescue plan to bail em out. So, what did they do, BAC took them under their parental wing and bought em out. It might best be summated as an unpleasant marriage of inconvenience.

Q4 07 Earnings from C and MER were expected to bomb so badly they could be best described as "Shock and Awe" earnings announements. Bearish Sentiment preceding these announcements were at an extreme not seen since the Oct 1990 war in Iraw that prompted a 20% correction in the stock market.
