Lender Processing Services is riding the historic wave of mortgage defaults, and with continuing high rates of late mortgages and a building backlog of foreclosures, business looks good for 2010 as well. But there are some real risks to consider before investing.

Here are a couple charts from some of the stocks I’ve mentioned over the past couple of weeks. Especially in this market, remember to keep your stops tight, as all it takes is a bad sentence to bring the market down.

I tweeted this stock chart of Bank of America (BAC) the other day. Since peaking out around $18, the bank has been retreating lower inch by inch and formulating a nice wedge pattern.

Duke Energy (NYSE: DUK) reported fourth quarter 2009 adjusted diluted EPS was 28 cents, compared to 27 cents for fourth quarter 2008. analysts average $0.25. DUK beats by $0.03.

The company was able to achieve this performance in part by exceeding its target of reducing operations and maintenance costs by $150 million in 2009.

Total System Services is one of the largest providers of electronic payment processing services to banks and retailers worldwide. New contract wins overseas are helping to offset customer losses stemming from consolidation in the financial industry, but there are few near-term catalysts for growth.

Emerson (NYSE: EMR) announced diluted earnings per share for the first quarter were down 7 percent to $0.56 per share from $0.60 last year. analysts average $0.42. EMR beats by $0.14

Net sales for the first quarter ended December 31, 2009 were $5.0 billion, a decline of 7 percent from $5.4 billion reported in the prior year quarter. Underlying sales in the quarter declined 13 percent.

Markets around the world have declined in January. In the U S, the large-cap S&P 500 and the small-cap Russell 2000 benchmarks are down 3.6% and 3.7%%, respectively.

The decline in overseas stock investments has been larger. The MSCI EAFE and MSCI EM indexes commonly used to measure the performance of developed and emerging markets are down 5.1% and 7.8% respectively.

Maybe I’m blinded from love, but I decided to add Bank of America (BAC) to my 4 stocks to buy in 2010, after doing the same in 2009. While the 8% return the stock saw last year was nice, I really thought the bank would have made further strides into 2010, so hopefully you can see why I decided to take another attempt with the stock this year.

BAC announced they would be paying back the TARP funds by raising money in an offering next Monday. The stock gapped higher today and pushed up only to reverse hard and sell into the 20/50/200 moving average area of support.

Today is Wednesday November 25, 2009 and I am in a selling mood, not because I am extremely bearish but because I see a potential profit play. I am looking to sell covered calls on some of my holdings. If you're thinking about selling covered calls like me, today may be the day to do it!
