Another method has been discovered by a US company and that is the use of nanoshells. These are small particles of gold wrapped around silica that are injected in the body. When they accumulate in the tumor infected area they are illuminated with an infrared laser beam. The nanoshells absorb the light and the tumor is destructed. Tests have shown that this type of therapy is highly effective and it is now pending the Federal Drug Administration approval for the treatment of human neck and head cancer.
